Hi! I'm Xavi Richer Vis.
(pronounced ZAA-vee REE-shay viss)
I’m a Toronto-based freelance writer and journalist. My work often combines investigative reporting with data analysis to uncover how governments and corporations shape the world around us.
My work has been published in places like Wired, The Narwhal, and Maclean’s. I’ve held staff roles at Canadian Business, The Globe and Mail, and the Investigative Journalism Foundation. I’m part of the Data-Driven Reporting Project’s Spring 2025 cohort, a fellowship sponsored by Northwestern University and the Google News Initiative, investigating Canada’s specific claims system with Canada’s National Observer.
Outside of reporting, I regularly lead workshops on data journalism, including for the Canadian Association of Journalists and Humber StoryLab’s Data Driven.
Please don’t hesitate to send me an email if you would like to commission me for a story, to share a tip, or to just say hi!
